Project: "Big Mess" (Joint Commission With A 5 yr-old and 1 yr-old)

A lot of projects being completed.

Recently I was asked to do a joint painting with my niece and nephew...here's the kicker, the nephew is 5 and the niece is 1. This might have been karma from my childhood, where I use to lock my sister in a cedar chest. However, being the coolest uncle ever, and going on 24 hours of no sleep, I agreed wholeheartedly.

During the next couple of weeks, I will be positing updates, sketches, and the process in action. This is where I know my first tour of college will be an advantage...I was an elementary education major.

Hence why we're calling this project: "Bless This Big Mess."

Auction Update: "Well Traveled

"Well Traveled"
(Watercolors, Project Notes)

Last night I was finalizing my notes for an upcoming painting, which will be auctioned to benefit a local senior gym. Annually the senior gym has what they call their "Homecoming". Homecoming is an opportunity for all the gym participants and their family, to come for a fun evening of food and drinks.

I want to play off the word homecoming or "coming home". Face it, we all travel our own destined paths. Along the way we walk, run, climb, dodge, and trudge, sometimes every day. We finally feel at home when we can slip off our well traveled shoes on the welcome mat, and walk in where it's dry and warm.

Side Note: IT'S MUD ON THE SHOE.

"Frozen Grapes"

"Frozen Grapes" (2015)

"Frozen Grapes"

(Acrylics, 18 x 24)

I was looking for something random to paint last night, so I went freezer diving. It's amazing what you can find at the back of your freezer! ;) Wasn't too concerned with the subject. What caught my eye was the colors and consistency of the frozen grapes, and the ice that developed on the grapes. Great snack as well! :)

"Run Away & Join The Circus"

"Runaway & Join The Circus" (Acrylics)

Prints Available.

As a child, I had hermit crabs as pets. The crabs were always so eager to move out of their shells, to find some place new. They were always eager to run away. So why not run away to join the circus?! This hermit crab is now taken residence in a spacious clown horn, and is enjoying its new career as a clown.
Sorry. . .it was a long weekend.

"Citrus" Painting Experiment

"Citrus" (Acrylics, Hydrogen Peroxide)

"Citrus" is a painting consisting of acrylics paints and hydrogen peroxide. In experimenting a concept for an upcoming project, I liked how the shapes started to look like the fruit I was enjoying.

I really like how the hydrogen peroxide gave the paint the shiny gloss for the citrus.  I'm looking forward to experimenting with other concepts, using this method.

New Art Blog Header . . .

Sad that my Adobe Photoshop is acting up, but I did find a way to come up with a new header for my blog and profiles. Not too shabby. . .

"Old Hands" (In Progress) & Upcoming Auction

I've been asked to enter 3 original paintings for an auction that will benefit a community senior gym. I believe one must reinvest in local businesses that benefit their local community. After visiting and swapping (many) stories with the gym participants, I have many ideas for the auction in November. More details to be shared in the near future.

The artwork in progress provided, for the mean time I am calling "Old Hands", was inspired by my time meeting with the participants at the senior gym. When someone is called an "Old Hand", they are considered an expert. The senior gym participants are not just experts in living life, but more importantly, experts in perseverance.

"Old Hands" is a 9 x 12 water color painting. This will be my first attempt in painting hands. "Luckily" (?) I chose to start off focusing on arthritic hands. You always must find ways to improve your skills. There is no room for avoidance. I'm gradually starting to dig the progress on this painting and I'm excited to see which new skills and experiences I will gain from this experience. Maybe some day I will be an "Old Hand" as well.
